A1 & A2 Milk

About A1 & A2 milk

A major protein component of cow’s milk is β-casein. A1 and A2 are specific proteins found in cow's milk, though in different proportions depending on the breed of cattle. A1 milk, which is the most commonly used milk and is abundantly available, is obtained from cows of Western origin like Holstein, Jersey etc. and yields a large quantity of milk. The A2 milk is the milk obtained by the cows of Indian origin like Gir, Sahiwal etc. Regular milk contains both A1 and A2 beta-casein, but A2 milk contains only A2 beta-casein.

A detailed differentiation of both milk types is presented below

Source

A2 type milk is sourced from desi Indian Gir Cow breeds such as Gir whereas A1 milk is sourced from foreign or hybrid breeds such as Jersey, Holstein etc.

Physical appearance

Gir cow has a hump on back whereas foreign breeds have a flat back with no hump present. It is believed that hump has a Surya Ketu vein running which on interaction with sunrays produces gold salts in her blood. These salts are present in Gir cow milk and other bodily fluids because of which milk, butter and ghee has golden hue and are full of nutrients and minerals.

Presence of colostrums

Gir cow milk contains colostrums which is found in the mother’s milk and is crucial for the development for child physical and mental development. It is also responsible for development of antibodies in infants whereas no such property is present in A1 type milk.

Digestion

Gir cow milk is easy to digest and can be consumed by everyone i.e., infants, children, female, young and old people without any problems whereas many people are not able to digest A1 type milk and suffers from indigestion, stomach discomfort, bowel irritation.

Health benefits

A2 type milk sourced from Gir cow has various medicinal properties which boosts immunity and also helps in the treatment of various health disorders such as obesity, asthma, thyroid, joint pain & arthritis, migraine & PMS whereas no such health benefits are linked with properties of milk sourced from foreign breeds.

Presence of nutrients

Gir cow milk is rich in various vitamins, minerals, calcium, potassium, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. On the other hand, milk from foreign breed and is not as rich in nutrients as Gir cow milk and also sometimes causes indigestion issues.
